3.2. "Rules for multiple choice questions" (according to Malte Persike)
To ensure that students can actually answer multiple choice questions, the following rules must be observed:
- Answerable without reading the questions/answers
- No clue words ("never", "always" etc.)
- Similarly long alternative answers
- Equally plausible alternative answers
- Equally probable positions for "correct" -> not always in the same position
- Not too similar answer alternatives
- Few repetitions of words
- Few negations
- Four or more alternative answers
- Report the number of correct answer options
